Dear Diary,

OK! It’s day one of my first year of teaching at Social Prepatory Institute. I’ve already been to the school and into my classroom a few times to set up my face ID and fingerprint access, as well as to set up each student’s various learning devices. I’m especially excited to utilize the new Tesla VR headsets. I’ve actually used the model prior before in teacher’s college at York University, so i’m pretty confident i’ll be able to use the new model pretty easily. The VR headsets are meant to encourage experiential learning in the classroom, since we aren’t able to actually travel anywhere since the divide happened. I think it’s really important for the students to learn through doing rather than just learning from an e-book.

I just got to school and the students are definitely dressed to impress. It looks like metallic and chrome garments are all the rage again this year. The students in all of my classes seem very focused on participating and doing well in class, but I worry that some are only doing this to appear smart and climb the social ladder.

It’s been a few days now and I’ve noticed that there is a lot of pressure from the school board to have the highest test scores possible. A lot of the teachers here do care about teaching with an inquiry-based mindset and really trying to engage the students in the work, but it feels like Tesla really just wants us to push out “distinguished” and intelligent students/members of society.

They warned us about the conflicts between the teachers, the school board and Tesla and how that might make teaching for the better of the students difficult, but I didn’t realize it would already be this hard.

I also wonder a lot about the children of the Greasers. I understand that they are a vile and uncivilized community and that they have done some really awful things to us Socs, but when I look at my students I think about their children too. The children have not done anything wrong yet, right? I remember vaguely when I was younger before the divide, we learned a bit about helping those “less fortunate” than us. Not sure how that worked exactly. I don’t know, maybe we could create a program here at the school to help save some of those children from their vile parents?

I’m going to talk to my principal about some of the concerns I have and i’ll report back.

Dear Diary,

Today I woke up with a pep in my step, I was so excited to start my new internship with my Uncle Elon on the study of the Socs new model of the Tesla FX, the first-ever flying car. All the kids at school have been talking about it, I even heard that this girl Stacy’s mother got to test fly one! I am a little nervous to start today because I only had 7 hours to study last night, I forgot to charge my robot tutor Siri last night so we had to cut our session short, and not to mention, I have to walk into the newest edition of Teen Vogue for the new face of the Socs’s community. My father signed me up as a favor to my uncle to be featured. I had a fitting with Mary, my personal stylist earlier this morning, I loved what she made for me but I hate the sunglasses look and I wish we could wear something looser and not so latex and tight.

Anyways, I put on my Monday metallics and took my moon boots to my internship. It’s so annoying my parents won't let me drive even though Siri taught me everything already, I mean the car basically drives itself I don't even have to do anything. But for my 16th birthday, they got me custom moon boots that are supposed to be the safest and fastest travel for students. It’s pretty cool because they got them on pre-design so no one else at school has them yet.

So I got to my internship and saw uncle Elon, I mean I’ve been to his work before but never had this much responsibility. He started by introducing me to everyone and I even got to sit in on a lunch with all the top executives. We had the best meal! They were testing out this new technology of food where the taste adapts to what you are craving. I’ve only ever tried this once before at a family event, we’re friends with one of the chefs so he let us test it out.
After we ate we met with some more people and they walked me through what my roles will be for the next four months of my internship. It seems like I will be working with the coding department on how to fix some of the glitches they are experiencing with the model. I’ve been coding since I was 6 years old so I was happy to be put in that department. All the schools in the Socs area are highly STEM oriented and have elite technology to advance us from a young age.
Anyways, after my first day, I just went home and watched some tv on my virtual reality, had to catch up on some emails from the Vouge shoot earlier, and then just had Siri run me a bath. Overall I had a great first day but we’ll see what happens within the next week. Will write back tomorrow.

Socs learn about the history of the divide between themselves and the Greasers, but this teaching very strongly favours the story of the Socs and focuses on the negative attributes of the Greasers.

Inquiry-based learning focuses on student-lead learning where students are encouraged to come to develop their own knowledge and conclusions with the support of the instructor. Since the Greasers do not make much money they are given clothing vouchers once a year for one new garment, because of this the fashion scene for the Greasers is highly dependent on sharing and circulating eachothers clothing.
