Billions of years ago, an ancient alien civilization sent out a spacecraft and a team on a scientific experiment mission. The mission was to visit an inhabited planet with no advanced life to see if they could enhance the cognitive function of the brain, with each new generation born gaining more cognitive brain function than the last, in order to advance life on a planet. The ship had on board the experiment, made of two parts. Part A of the experiment was an airborne virus meant to be used as a delivery method of part B. Part B of the experiment was the neurological enhancement meant to be attached to the virus as a way to spread around the world. Together these two parts worked miraculously to do exactly what the alien mission had set out to do, but separated, the virus on its own was extremely deadly. During the landing mission something went wrong, and the ship split apart while entering earth's atmosphere. A section of the ship with the virus crash landed in the remote northern arctic town we now know as Dundas Harbour. Another section of the ship containing part two of the experiment crash lands in the GTA, where eventually the northern shores of Lake Ontario would be formed. Life goes on as we know it, formation of the ice caps cover the ship, the dawn of mankind, the rise and fall of the roman empire and Mongolian empire, the industrial revolution and the first missions to space.  Over time extreme pressure and movement of the ice caps start to break apart the ship, including sealed compartments containing the virus, although safely sealed under the ice caps for now. Over time, the ice caps are receding. Eventually in the mid 1970’s while the CN tower was almost wrapped up in its construction, the ship in Dundas Harbour is exposed as the ice caps melt. The virus is airborne and sweeps the globe within two weeks. Human existence and most of the animal kingdom have been erased from earth, except the GTA, where part B of the experiment is keeping it a safe haven unaffected by the virus. The “20-year struggle” ensues where conflicting factions of people band together in a desperate attempt at survival, gathering any resources they can get in order to cling onto life. In the mid 90’s some order was restored because people learned the only way to survive is to work together. Government and laws are formed and the CN Tower is retrofitted to become the central hub, housing the government in the top, and a secure scientific lab below. Trade is the only currency.
