Since the artefact was exposed with the construction of the CN Tower, the government has tried to subdue the population, assure everyone that everything is fine and maintain the integrity of the city centre. Opinions of the government (under the leadership of a democratically elected President Issa Sabmud), have been mostly positive. Specifically, President Sabmud has been popular for his dashing good looks and charisma. He has the look of Jason Momoa and the charisma of Ryan Seacrest. Over time as overpopulation has increased, the government began to dam off sections of Lake Ontario to build more homes and services. In 2022, this dam process exposed the alien artefact - which is the source of the GTA’s exclusion from the deadly pandemic. Sabmud in time for his re-election had a great idea. He decided to break the artefact into small pieces and he gave them to groups to take to new areas. The groups were to inhabit these areas while being protected from the disease. In so, the government tried to impose a socialist policy of paying people to settle north and south of the GTA. This is very similar to the Abraham Lincoln Homestead Act, where people were paid to settle lands out west in America during the Civil War. However, this policy breaks down as class systems engage in an uprising regarding who should possess the pieces of the artefact. Large companies still existing in the current day (McDonalds, Ford, Enron) somehow ended up possessing a significant amount of artefact pieces. This allowed them to take over/sponsor swatches of newly available land and turn them into factories and production facilities for their products. A growing number of people called “conspiracy theorists” believed that President Sabmud and the government knew about the artefact’s location all along but kept this truth hidden to keep the GTA city centre more easily controllable. Some recalled submarines and Men in Black scuba divers in the lake prior. Also, many believed that Sabmud was bought out by these companies or some collusion occurred to grant them the pieces of the artefact. Fighting, wars and corruption over the artefact’s pieces continued into the 2030s. Just like the resource consumption that caused this disaster through Global Warming, the artefacts pieces became depleted as a vicious cycle began anew.
